I’ve been using the leftover jars as food storage containers, but I’ve realized that there’s another use for them.
Drill a hole through the lid to provide an inflow path for a small computer fan to be attached to the lid.
Drill a 1-inch hole in each of the sides and the bottom. Cut up one of those cheap face masks to cover each hole, and use tape to form an airtight seal.
The reason for using a square jar instead of a cylindrical one is stability.
If you have never bought a jar of Trader Joe’s sauerkraut, any plastic container with at least one flat side will do the job. If you have a beat-up plastic container that you’re thinking of getting rid of, you can give it a new life.
Just a heads up that the surgical masks have an electrostatic layer which will wear out eventually and then they don’t work very well. I know aaron collins says with the n95s the electrostatic starts wearing out at like 40 hours or so apparently.
